Montreal-based independent game studio Clever Plays has announced the platforms, price, and launch date for Operation: Tango, its highly-anticipated asymmetrical co-op spy adventure.

Operation: Tango

Operation: Tango is an espionage-themed cooperative adventure challenging you and a friend to complete dangerous missions across the globe in a high-tech near-future world.

Operation: Tango plays out much like a virtual escape room, bonding players in the process. One player will take on the role of Angel, the “Field Agent”, while the other plays as Alistair, the “Hacker.” Playing from separate devices, each player enjoys a completely unique play experience. The pair must work together, in constant verbal contact, and linked in an augmented, fully-connected, and highly-stylized world to solve puzzles and complete each high stakes mission.

The game takes its tagline, “It Takes Two to Save the World”, to heart, in that only by sharing the vantage points of each role can players overcome the many challenges that stand between them and completing each mission. The resulting experience is more like an in-person game night or team challenge.

“It’s really the perfect game for these socially-distanced times, as it allows you to ‘play together apart’ and have a unique shared experience that other games simply cannot deliver,” said Angela Mejia, studio head at Clever Plays. “Players who own the game will be able to invite their friends to play along with them, whether they are playing on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC. But we’ve also priced the game so that you can gift the game to your favorite Player Two, or you can each pick up a copy for about the same price as a night at the movies.”

Players hosting the game can invite a friend to join them for free via their game platform, where applicable. However, to host a game, players must own a copy of Operation: Tango. At launch, the game will have cross-play across systems.

UPDATED: Operation: Tango was supposed to come out June 1st on Xbox, but it ended up being released as a PlayStation console exclusive while also being included in the PlayStation Plus line-up.
