Everything we know about the latest Batman game
The latest Batman film, The Batman, was released earlier this year and now fans are hotly anticipating the arrival of a brand new game. Here, we reveal everything there is to know about it including which platforms it’ll be available on.
Introducing Gotham Knights
The big news surrounding this title is that it won’t be coming to Xbox One and PS4. Instead, it’ll be available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, only. It’s set for release later this year, in October, but you are able to pre-order so that you don’t miss out.
Many have been wondering whether this game is a sequel to Batman: Arkham Knight, which was released in 2015 and is set nine months after the 2011 Batman: Arkham City game. In the 2015 game, we see Batman adventure around Gotham City as he attempts to confront Scarecrow - one of his arch enemies. In Express VPN’s Batman infographic, we learn that Scarecrow is obsessed with using fear as a weapon. What’s more, a day job as a psychologist, and genius-level intellect, make him one of the scariest villains around.
The makers behind Gotham Knights have confirmed it’s not a sequel to the Arkham series, though. Instead, it’s a standalone game and the word on the street is that Batman won’t even appear as a playable character. The developer of the Arkham series has confirmed they are working on another game though, Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, which will be part of the Arkham franchise.
Gotham Knights characters
Following the events of Batman: Arkham Knight, the game takes place in Gotham City, after the death of Batman and the Police Commissioner. Crime and lawlessness are now higher than ever and players get to choose whether they play as Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, or Red Hood. The aim is to continue Batman’s legacy by restoring Gotham to its former glory. Of course, there will be a few challenges and unfriendly faces along the way, though. This includes the Court of Owls and Mr. Freeze. Whether or not the Joker will appear isn’t yet known.
A trailer has already been released by DC, which not only gave an insight into the characters and storyline but also the expected gameplay. It’s clear that fan favorites like the Batcycle will be making a comeback, but enhanced technology also means that Robin can now teleport. There’s also the option to play individually or with a friend, and you can drop in and out of the game without impacting where you are in terms of progression.
For now, that’s all we know about the upcoming Batman game, Gotham Knights, but more news could be released before the October 2022 launch date. In the meantime, past Batman games are still available to play, and the March 2022 film is still being shown in cinemas all over. Of course, if you are looking for Xbox One games specifically, there are plenty of recent releases to keep you busy. The most popular on the market at the moment are Turbo Overkill, Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
