Most people would not argue with the assumption that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was a game of a generation. It redefined the RPG genre and still sits within the top 20 bestselling games of all time, despite it being released nearly a decade ago. This is a testament to not just the replayability of the game, but also its quality, and the achievement that Bethesda Studios managed to accomplish. The recent acquisition of the developers by Microsoft promises great things for the next game in the chapter, and fans can expect there to be a staggering budget behind the game.

The Elder Scrolls VI: What It Needs

The Elder Scrolls series is known to most gamers, and many will be anticipating the next instalment eagerly. Those who grew up with the latest game are adults now, and by the time the next game comes out, an estimated 15 years will have passed. This is clearly a long time to wait for a game, and so fans will be expecting The Elder Scrolls VI to have improved on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim shortcomings and refined its strengths. Here is what should be included in the next saga in The Elder Scrolls universe.

Better Story – While the main storyline of Skyrim was certainly engaging, it was dwarfed in comparison to some other video game stories that had more complex narratives such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Even some of the other questlines within Skyrim were more enjoyable than the main one, which some could consider to be a failure. Bethesda has proven that they can create quality main stories, the one in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a testament to that fact. In the next game, the writing department will have to do better to create a memorable story.

Better Voice Acting – A sad truth of Skyrim is that the quality of the voice acting is less than great. This is not to say that the voice actors are bad, in the roles they do have, there is no problem in making the player believe that those NPCs are part of the world. The problem arises when exploring the world of Skyrim past a few towns near the beginning. It soon becomes apparent that there is a relatively small cast of voice actors as many of them use the same voice for different characters within the game. This takes out immersion as players will talk to a blacksmith in one town, and then realise that the stable hand from another has the exact same voice. This will need addressing for the next game, which should not be a problem considering the expected higher budget.

More Content – This is something that Skyrim sorely missed, and players have been quick to note that the gameplay loop in the game rarely ever differs from the standard: get a quest, go to a dungeon, get a reward. Some other games like The Witcher have mini-games that help break up the flow of the gameplay, others like Grand Theft Auto V even have casinos where players can simulate the act of gambling on websites like those at casinogenie.org. Having extra content like this in the new game will make it infinitely more repayable and less boring.

The Elder Scrolls VI is set to be one of the most anticipated games of all time, and by making these changes, Bethesda can ensure it is one of the best of all time.
